14 Year Old Boy Hit By Car After Exiting School Bus Near Bradenton
Myakka City, Manatee County - Florida Highway Patrol announced a pedestrian was in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road after exiting a school bus.
The accident took place as a school bus driven by 74 year old Tina Rodriguez from Bradenton was stopped in the southbound lanes on Verna Bethany Road near the intersection with Gopher Hill road.
While the school bus was stopped with it's red flashing lights, and stop signs with leds extended, the driver waved the students, all school aged children, to cross the road.
Two of the children had crossed Verna Bethany Road from Gopher Hill road when a 2001 Kia SUV, driven by 19 year old Josee Martin from Sarasota approached from the northbound lanes of Verna Bethany road.
At approximately 6:22am the left front of the Kia SUV collided with a 14-year old boy attempting to cross the road.
The force of the impact knocked the boy toward the west causing him to impact the left side of the stopped school bus, and he came to a stop in the southbound lanes.
The Kia SUV came to a stop on the grassy shoulder on the east side of the road.
The injured boy was seriously injured and taken to was transported by ambulance to All Childen’s Hospital.
The report stated that Martin was charged with failing to stop for a school bus displaying a stop signal.
