19-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed In Left-Turn Crash On Bee Ridge Road In Sarasota Wednesday
SARASOTA - Florida Highway Patrol has announced that a crash between a motorcycle and a Sport Utility Vehicle has claimed the life of a Sarasota man.
The accident took place Wednesday evening as a 19-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a motorcycle heading east on Bee Ridge Road in the right lane and approaching the intersection with Shade Avenue.
As the motorcycle approached from the west, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 76-year-old woman from Sarasota was stopped on Shade Avenue at the intersection with Bee Ridge Road. Also stopped on Shade Avenue at the intersection with Bee Ridge Road was a 47-year-old man driving another SUV.
At 6:47:00 PM, the 76-year-old woman driving the SUV failed to yield to the oncoming motorcycle and entered the intersection, attempting to turn left from Shade Avenue on Bee Ridge Road, and drove directly into the path of a 19-year-old motorcyclist.
The right front of the woman's SUV collided with the front of the motorcycle, the force of the crash separated the motorcyclist from his vehicle where he continued on and impacted a crosswalk signal pole.
After striking the motorcycle, the SUV rotated causing it to collide with the other SUV at the intersection, driven by the 47-year-old man.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured by the violent crash and taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the first SUV also sustained minor injuries in the crash.
FHP has stated that the crash is under further investigation.
