3 Injured In Wrong-Way DUI Crash On I-75 Early Monday

BRADENTON – Florida Highway Patrol has announced two people were seriously injured and one person sustained minor injuries after a suspected DUI driver collided with lawful traffic on southbound I-75 very early Monday morning.

The crash began as a 23-year-old man from Palm Harbor Florida driving a BMD sedan was heading north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile-marker 227.

As the sedan continued the wrong way on the interstate, lawfully traveling traffic was approaching from the opposite direction including, a 70-year-old man from Port Charlotte driving a Chevy Sport Utility Vehicle, with a 69-year-old woman traveling as a passenger in the SUV.

At 1:18:00 AM, the SUV encountered the wrong-way driver in the BMW sedan and the two vehicles collided head-on.

The crash resulted in both the 70-year-old man driving the Chevy SUV, and the 23-year-old man driving the BMW sedan being seriously injured.

The woman traveling as a passenger in the SUV sustained only minor injuries in the crash.

Both drivers were taken to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

FHP has stated that charges are pending and an investigation into a DUI leading to the crash is ongoing.
