6-Year Old Boy Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash Near Sarasota Bradenton Airport
MANATEE COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol reported three people were injured Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run car accident on US 41 south of Tallevast Road.
The accident took place as a 57 year old man from Bradenton was driving a Ford pickup truck in the center travel lane of southbound U.S. 41 approaching the intersection with Westmoreland Drive.
Also in the Ford pickup were two passengers, a 28 year old woman from Bradenton, and a 6 year old boy from Bradenton.
As the Ford Pick up truck was approaching the intersection from the north, a second vehicle was traveling on northbound U.S. 41 approaching the same intersection from the south in the center turn lane. The second vehicle is as of yet unidentified, but may have been a white sport utility vehicle.
At 9:48:00 AM the white SUV attempted to turn left from U.S. 41 onto Westmoreland Drive, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming Ford pickup.
The front of the SUV crashed in the left side of the pickup truck and the force of the collision caused the truck to rotate, than roll-over several times in the southbound travel lanes of U.S. 41.
The Ford pickup truck finally came to a stop upright in the center lanes of U.S. 41 facing east.
Both the 6 year old boy, and the 28year old woman were seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The driver and passengers in the Ford pickup truck all had been wearing their seat belts during the crash.
The White SUV fled the scene after the crash and FHP has asked anyone with knowledge of the accident contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800 or *FHP (*347) on any cellular phone.

Florida Highway Patrol has located the person responsible for the crash on U.S. 41 . The driver was an 87 year old man from Port Charlotte, driving a white SUV.
