8 Reasons Not To Drink And Drive

We’ve all heard it a million times, right? Don’t drink and drive. Some of us may know it is a bad idea, but why exactly can it get us in so much trouble? Let’s take a look at 8 reasons why you just really shouldn’t do it.

1. You can go to jail. I’m pretty sure none of you out there has “Go to jail” on your bucket list. There are so many other things you could be doing with your time. If you get caught drinking and driving, one of the consequences could be jail time. And a lot of it, depending on the outcome of your situation. Avoid this by just not drinking.

2. You could have to pay large fees or fines. If you don’t have to do jail time, you may have to pay a large fine or fee. If you caused any damage while drinking and driving, you may have to pay for the damage, plus a large ticket from the cops. Stay sober and keep your money.

3. You might lose your job or professional license. Depending on your line of work, you can actually be fired for having a DUI on your record. It may also block you from being hired in the future for other types of jobs. Employers can pull all of this up on your history and get this information whether you give it to them or not. How will you pay for those large fees and fines in number 2 without a job? That’s a good question…

4. Your insurance premiums can increase. Once your insurance company gets wind of your driving under the influence, they will immediately re-categorize you as an insurance risk. You are more likely to cost them money, so therefore they will charge you more money. This is not good news for you if you also lost your job and have to pay a large fine. Do you see how these are all stacking up?

5. You are increasing your risk of being in an accident. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MAD) 27 people die EVERY DAY as a result of drunk driving accidents. Why would you take that chance? Having a drink or two really isn’t worth risking your safety, or someone else’s safety. Plus, adding on the repair costs for your car and your medical bills makes this even more expensive.

6. You do not want a criminal record. Having a criminal record is something that is really hard to get away from. It follows you everywhere from job interviews to loan applications. You will find it hard to do the things in life that you want to do, and it may stick with you for quite a while.

7. You may cause serious damage to someone else’s property. If you are in an accident, you may have damaged someone else’s car. If you crashed into something, you may have damaged a house, a boat, a bike, and more. All of these damages need to be paid for, and guess who is going to be the one held responsible?

8. You could hurt someone. Your reflexes are just not what they should be when you are drinking. Even just one itty-bitty drink can slow your response time down by seconds. You need all your wits about you when you are driving a car. You never know when a child might jump out in the road in front of your car. Or a cyclist might make a sharp turn in the road to avoid an animal. If your response time is compromised, even by seconds, it could make a big difference in saving someone’s life.

Have we convinced you? Hopefully you don’t want any of this on your record, or your conscious. Nothing good ever comes out of drinking and driving. Even if it seems like a good idea at the time, it isn’t. If you have been the victim of a drunk driving accident, get help from a lawyer now. They can help you get your life back to normal as soon as possible, or at least receive payment for what you need to fix.
