A Bicyclist From Palmetto Was Killed In A Hit And Run On Moccasin Wallow Road

Manatee County – Florida Highway Patrol announced that the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run driver on Moccasin Wallow road on March 13th has been located.

The crash took place as a 43-year-old man from Palmetto was riding a bicycle traveling east on Moccasin Wallow Road in Palmetto east of the intersection with 36th Avenue East.

As the man continued on, a sedan was approaching the bicyclist from behind.

At 8:35 P.M. the driver of the sedan failed to avoid the bicyclist and the front of the vehicle collided with the rear of the bicycle.

The impact of the collision separated the man from his bicycle, fatally injuring him and he came to rest on the south grass shoulder.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and investigators report that the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.


Florida Highway Patrol has updated this story announcing that the car has recently been located in Hillsborough County, Florida and the model identified as a 2009 Infiniti sedan.

This crash remains under investigation by police, and FHP has asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at or through Florida Crime Stoppers
