A Motorcyclist Was Killed After Being Separated From His Vehicle In Fort Myers
FORT MYERS - FHP reported one person was killed after they became separated from their vehicle Tuesday evening.
The accident happened as a 47-year-old man from Fort Myers was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Summerlin Road, approaching the intersection with Bass Road in the vicinity of Sarah Bell Court.
At the same time, a 60-year-woman was driving a sport utility vehicle was driving west on Summerlin Road heading toward the motorcyclist in the opposite lane.
At 6:38:00 PM for reasons unknown, the motorcyclist drove off the pavement and onto the grass median, then onto the westbound travel lanes.
After entering the westbound lanes of Summerlin Road, the motorcyclist lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway where they came to a stop lying in the center lane.
As the driver approached the disabled motorcyclist they failed to see them lying in the roadway, and the Sport Utility Vehicle collided with the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet during the crash and was fatally injured.
The driver of the SUV was not harmed in the accident.
FHP has stated the accident remains under investigation.
