Bayer Is Still In The Process Of Settling Yaz Cases

These days, people have begun to look at drug manufacturers in a much more scrutinizing manner. The reasons are obvious – too many issues have arisen from drugs in the past to do anything but approach the use of prescription medications carefully. Among the long list of drug-related lawsuits over the past, the Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella cases stand out as one of the largest and one of the key reasons that people review their drugs more carefully today.

While the initial case was settled several years ago, today Bayer is still settling cases brought forth by plaintiffs who suffered as a result of the use of the drug. It’s possible that you too may be owed some form of restitution, and if so you’ll need to speak to an attorney about it. But first, you’ll want to learn a little more about just what is involved in this situation.

Yaz, Ocella, and Yasmin are all names for a birth control pill brought to market by the Bayer industry. Used properly, it is successful in preventing pregnancies. However, a number of side effects began to be linked to the drug. At the same time, it was found that Bayer failed to properly test the drug and that they possibly took steps to downplay the risks associated with the use of this drug. As a result, many women began to experience serious issues that they had no reason to suspect.

The different issues linked to the use of Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella are related to blood clotting, and they include:

• Deep Vein Thrombosis
• Gallbladder Problems
• Stroke
• Pulmonary Embolism

To date, more than 6,000 women throughout the country have been awarded roughly 1 billion dollars total – about $209,000 per person brining a case to light. Even while Bayer continues to claim that gallbladder injuries in the cases aren’t caused by the use of the drug, the company still reached a settlement wherein the company may pay $2,000 to those with gallbladder issues and as much as $3,000 to those who have had to have their gallbladder removed entirely. However, early reports are that these gallbladder related settlements have been capped at a total of $24 million in payouts.

For women suffering clotting related issues like those listed above, the settlements can be much, much higher. Any woman who has been affected by the use of the drug may have a case, but it’s important to remember that each case is settled on a case by case basis instead of in a larger class action lawsuit type payment wherein each plaintiff is awarded a flat amount. As a result, some plaintiffs could receive much larger payouts than others based on their situation.

It’s important for any woman who has taken Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella in the past and suffered a clotting related injury or a gallbladder problem to contact an attorney. While the company is settling cases, only an experienced attorney can determine whether or not you have a case and can help you proceed towards getting the kind of restitution that you are owed.
