Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Siesta Key Trolley On Midnight Pass Rd


SARASOTA – Florida Highway Patrol announced a bicyclist was killed after being hit by a bus Monday afternoon.

The accident took place as a 72-year-old man was riding a bicycle southbound on Midnight Pass Road approaching the intersection with Stickney Point Road on Siesta Key in Sarasota.

At the same time, a 42-year-old woman from Myakka City was driving the Siesta Key Trolley bus was following behind the bicyclist also approaching the intersection with Stickney Point Road.

At 1:31:00 PM for reasons unknown the bicyclist suddenly attempted to turn from the side of the lane to ride into the middle of the lane, and road directly into the path of the oncoming Trolley bus.

The left front of the Trolley bus crashed into the left side of the bicycle throwing the man from his bike onto the roadway.

Sarasota County EMS pronounced the man deceased at the scene of the crash.

FHP was continuing to investigate the accident.
