Bradenton Motorcyclist Dies After Being Hit By Left-Turning SUV On Cortez Road At 115th Street
MANATEE COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a fatal motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 684 (Cortez Road) and 115th Street SW in Bradenton on Wednesday Afternoon.
According to the FHP, the crash began as a sport utility vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman from Englewood, Florida, was traveling south on 115th Street West, and was preparing to make a left turn onto Cortez Road.
At the same time, a pickup truck with a trailer, driven by a 54-year-old man from Bradenton and carrying two passengers aged 44 and 48, was moving east on Cortez Road.
A 52-year-old man from Bradenton was riding a motorcycle traveling westbound on Cortez Road in the vicinity of the approaching SUV and pickup truck.
As the sport utility vehicle attempted the left turn from 115th Street West onto eastbound Cortez Road, the driver failed to yield to the oncoming pickup truck and collided with the left rear of the pickup truck and the left side of its trailer.
Following the initial collision, the sport utility vehicle was redirected across the centerline and into the path of a motorcycle traveling west on Cortez Road, operated by the 52-year-old man from Bradenton. The motorcycle crashed into the right side of the sport utility vehicle.
The motorcyclist was fatally injured by the collisions and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the drivers of the sport utility vehicle and the pickup truck, as well as the two passengers in the pickup truck, escaped the incident without injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol has stated they are continuing to investigate the crash.
