Cape Coral Man Dies In Truck Crash Near Punta Gorda Saturday
PUNTA GORDA - Florida Highway Patrol reported one person was killed after colliding with a tractor-trailer near Punta Gorda Saturday afternoon.
The fatal crash took place as a 67 year-old man from Cape Coral was driving a sedan westbound on S Jones Loop Road from the east, approaching the intersection with Taylor Road (County Road 765A).
At the same time a semi tractor trailer driven by a 76 year old man from Venice was heading north on Taylor Road, already crossing the intersection with S Jones Loop Road.
At 2:21 PM in the afternoon, the 67 year old man from Cape Coral failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the intersection where his vehicle collided with the side of trailer of the semi.
After crashing into the trailer the sedan rotated and came to a stop in the southbound lane of Taylor Road.
The tractor trailer came to a controlled stop in the northbound lanes of Taylor Road.
The driver of the sedan died as a result of the collision. Both drivers had been wearing seat belts during the crash.
