Crash On I-75 At North Port Ejects Tampa Man From Vehicle Fatally Injuring Him

SARASOTA COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported that a rear-end crash on Interstate 75 near mile marker 183 Tuesday night.

The crash began as a 23-year-old man from Tampa Florida was driving a sedan in the middle lane heading north, north of Sumter Blvd.

Traveling ahead of the sedan was a Sport Utility Vehicle with two occupants the driver, a 36-year-old man from Nashville Tennessee, and a 54-year-old woman from Murfreesboro Tennessee traveling as a passenger.

The sedan, traveling at a higher rate of speed than the SUV approached the SUV from behind and for reasons unknown failed to slow for the vehicle.

At 8:37:00 PM, the front of the sedan collided with the rear of the SUV. The force of the crash caused the young man who was driving the car without wearing a seat belt, to be ejected from the vehicle where he came to a rest on the right shoulder of I-75.

The SUV was forced off the roadway causing the vehicle to crash into a median cable barrier.

FHP has stated that the crash is under investigation.
