Cyclist Seriously Injured In Port Charlotte Hit-And-Run Tuesday
CHARLOTTE - Florida Highway Patrol announced a bicyclist was hit and seriously injured Tuesday night.
The crash happened as a 66-year-old man from Port Charlotte was riding a bicycle traveling north on US 41 in a left turn lane approaching the intersection with Elkcam Boulevard.
At the same time, an unknown vehicle was approaching the same intersection in the turn lane from the rear.
At 7:45:00 PM, the front of the unknown vehicle crashed into the back of the bicycle.
The bicyclist came to a stop in the area of the crash and the driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene.
The cyclist was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and FHP has asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them by calling *FHP or through Crime Stoppers.
