RAM Recall! Do You Have A Faulty Fiat Chrysler Pickup?
Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall on a specific model of the 2019 and 2020 Ram pickup truck because of an issue with the floor mat. Thankfully, no accidents have yet been reported with the defect at play, but Fiat Chrysler is taking no chances. If you have a 2019 or 2020 Ram pickup truck and you've noticed issues with the floor mat that came with it, or you purchased a floor mat aftermarket and noticed a problem with driving, you are instructed to either return the vehicle or the floor mat if possible.
The issue came to light when a driver of a Ram Pickup truck with a particular floor mat installed realized that the mat interfered with the accelerator pedal's operation. With some mat and pedal interactions, it was found that the deceleration wasn't working correctly, endangering the driver and those in other vehicles. The acceleration pedal is adjustable for comfort, while the specific floor mat has "ribs" for added foot traction. Under specific configurations, may not have the clearance required to reliably operate with a particular floor mat installed, as the pedal catches on the ribs.
Because of this, a recall has been issued on Ram Pickup trucks that have had a specific All-Weather floor mat installed for the driver. It is also possible for this mat to be installed later, so aftermarket purchases and installations may also be affected by this recall.
What To Do
If you own and drive a 2019 or 2020 Ram 1500, and you have the All-Weather floor mat installed for your driver-side, you qualify for this recall. Over 160,000 Ram 1500s have already been recalled, and so far, only 1% of the vehicles recalled suffer from the driving risk. Mexican and Canadian Ram 1500s are also affected by this recall.
Over 43,000 of the All-Weather floor mats have been sold and installed as aftermarket options. If you purchased a 2020 Ram 1500 or the All-Weather floor mat, please check with organizations such as the National Highway Safety Association to see if your vehicle is subject to this recall.
The Legal Implications For You
A defective product can sometimes result in injury. With products as large, powerful, and fast as vehicles, the potential for harm can be much more significant. If an auto manufacturer realizes there is an issue with a car that presents a risk, they issue a product recall.
Any auto manufacturer that discovers a danger in a vehicle and choose to remain silent about this is guilty of negligence. This means that they are aware of a threat to their customers but decided to ignore that risk. Should that action result in an injury for drivers, that negligence now means they are legally and financially responsible to those victimized by their careless actions.
If you've been injured by a defective product—or even vehicle—where the manufacturers may have known about the defect, talk to a personal injury attorney. Product defects ignored by manufacturers should not go unanswered.
