FHP Looking For Fatal Hit And Run Driver After 21-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies In Sarasota Crash
LAKEWOOD RANCH - Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of an Audi Sport Utility Vehicle after they fled the scene of a fatal crash after colliding with a young motorcyclist from Orlando.
The crash began Tuesday night as a 21-year-old man from Orlando Florida was driving a motorcycle heading eastbound on Fruitville Road, approaching the intersection with Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, traveling in the right lane on a green traffic light.
As the motorcyclist approached the intersection, an as-of-yet unidentified driver of an Audi 2020 SUV was driving northbound on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, approaching the same intersection as the motorcyclist from the south and at a red traffic signal.
At 9:55:00 PM, the driver of the SUV crashed into an oncoming motorcyclist who was lawfully traveling in the intersection.
The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Orlando Florida was critically injured in the collision and transported to a local hospital.
Sometime later the injured motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Immediately after the collision, the driver of the Audi fled the scene driving the SUV.
However, FHP has announced that Troopers have located the SUV where it was abandoned on Interstate 75 at mile marker 210 and impounded the vehicle.
FHP has asked that anyone with information about the accident or the identity of the driver of the Audi SUV contact the Florida Highway Patrol, or contact Florida Crime-Stoppers.
