Man Dies After Crash With Pick Up Truck On Palm Beach Boulevard
LEE COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol reported on person died after being involved in a weather-related crash on State Road 80 (Palm Beach Boulevard) between Fort Myers and Labelle Florida.
The crash happened as a 33 year old man from Labelle was driving a sedan westbound on the outside lane of State Road 80, traveling toward the intersection with Pine Avenue.
At the same time a 47 year old man from Fort Myers was driving a pick up truck heading east on SR 80 in the inside lane, approaching the intersection with Pine Avenue from the opposing direction.
The driver of the sedan lost control of the car on the wet roadway and the right side of the vehicle slid into the north grassy shoulder after driving through the intersection with Pine Avenue.
After sliding toward the north the driver over corrected turning to the left which caused the car to swerve across both the westbound lanes , cross the median and enter the eastbound lanes of State Road 80.
At 5:37:00 AM, the car continued out of control traveling into the path of the oncoming pickup truck. The pick up truck crashed into the right rear of the car.
Both the sedan and the pickup truck cam to a stop on the south grassy shoulder of State Road 80.
The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident.
