More Recalls From GM for Problems Linked to Crashes and Injuries

Even as the numbers of recalls have climbed to staggering levels for GM’s botched handling of defective vehicle parts, yet more recalls have been announced.

The timing of the latest round would suggest that General Motor’s may have learned it’s lesson in attempting to cover up or put off expensive recalls.

The newest recall affects 3.36 million vehicles worldwide due to a problem with ignition switches.

The problem can allow the ignition switch to move out of the run position while the car is driving causing a loss of power breaking and steering.

Drivers should be aware that the problem is made worse by having heavy key rings. Apparently a heavy key ring will increase the potential that the ignition will move out of run. As such, GM is recommending all drivers simply use just the key until their vehicle has been repaired by their local GM dealership.

The recall includes vehicles built between 2000 and 2014 and includes models Chevy Impala, Cadillac Deville, Cadillac DTS, Buick Lacrosse, Buick Lucerne and Buick Regal.

This round of recalls for safety issues brings the grand total to more than 20 million vehicles. While the way the previous management of GM handled the safety issues has drawn both law suites and investigations, the speed of this current recall announcement hopefully means the new management will prioritize the safety of their customers over the profit margins and stock dividends.
