CHARLOTTE – Florida highway patrol announced a man has died in a motorcycle accident in Port Charlotte Monday evening.

The accident began as a 59-year-old man from North Port was driving a pickup truck south on US 41 (Tamiami Trail) in the left turn lane just south of Veterans Boulevard.

At the same time, a 36-year-old man from Port Charlotte was driving a motorcycle northbound on US 41 approaching the intersection with Veterans Boulevard and the turn lane that the pickup truck was waiting in.

At 5:37:00 PM, the pickup truck failed to yield to the oncoming motorcyclist and attempted to make a left turn.

The pickup truck drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist. The front of the motorcycle crashed into the right front of the pickup truck.

After the collision, the motorcycle came to a rest in the outside lane on US 41.

The pickup truck came to a stop in a parking lot on the east side of US 41.

The motorcyclist was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet during the time of the accident.

FHP has stated that the accident remains under investigation and that charges are pending for the driver of the pickup truck.
