Multi-Vehicle Crash At 301 And Tallevast Claims Lives Of 7-Year Old Boy And Woman From Ellenton


Manatee County – Florida Highway Patrol has reported a fatal crash involving 7 vehicles occurred Friday night.

FHP states the crash began the night of September 29th, as seven vehicles were traveling north on US 301 approaching the intersection with Tallevast Road.

The fatal crash unfolded as six vehicles where traveling north on US-301 approaching the intersection with Tallevast Road.

Traveling in the right lane behind the other vehicles, and approaching at speed was a sedan driven by a 25-year-old man from Sarasota (vehicle 1).

Directly in front of the fast approaching sedan driven by the 25-year-old from Sarasota, was another sedan driven by a 38-year-old Woman from Ellenton Florida, traveling with a seven-year-old girl in a passenger seat (vehicle 2).

At 9:45:00 PM, the 38-year-old woman lawfully slowed down as the vehicle ahead of her (vehicle 3), slowed down to prepare to turn right onto Tallevast.

The 25-year-old man from Sarasota failed to reduce speed for the slower traffic ahead and violently rear-ended the sedan with the woman and child from Ellenton.

The force of the collision caused the woman’s car to be propelled forward and into the right turn lane where it crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of her, (vehicle 3), a sedan driven by a 38-year-old man from Sarasota traveling with a 1-year-old girl. After colliding with rear of vehicle 3 the woman’s sedan overturned onto the roadway.

After crashing into and causing the sedan to overturn the sedan driven by the 25-year-old from Sarasota who initiated the crash, was redirected toward the left lanes of US-301 where it continued on and collided with the left sides of the vehicles ahead of him in the left lane (vehicles 4, 5, and 6).

This included a Sport Utility Vehicle driven by a 26-year-old from Bradenton (vehicle 4), a sedan driven by a 43-year-old woman from Bradenton traveling with a 42-year-old man from Parrish (vehicle 5), and an SUV (vehicle 6) driven by a 44-year-old woman from Palmetto traveling with two young girls of 6 years old and 13 years old.

After crashing into the northern-most vehicle in the left lane (vehicle 6), his sedan was redirected back into the right lane where he collided with a pickup truck driven (vehicle 7) by a 33-year-old man and a 15-year-old teenager from Ellenton, where the sedan (vehicle 1) finally came to a stop.

The force of the collisions and the number of vehicles resulted in a sobering number of casualties.

Both the 38-year-old Woman from Ellenton Florida, and the seven-year-old girl traveling with her in vehicle 2 died as a result of the crash.

The 26-year-old man from Bradenton in vehicle 4, was seriously injured in the collision.

The 44-year-old driver of the SUV (vehicle 6) suffered only minor injuries.

The 25-year-old man from Sarasota who was driving vehicle 1 that initiated the crash was seriously injured in the collision.

FHP has stated that this accident remains under investigation by the FHP Vehicular Homicide Department. The report so far has not listed in drugs or alcohol were a factor or if any criminal charges have been filed.
