North Port Man Dies After Being Hit By Street Sweeper On I-75


CHARLOTTE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported a man from North Port was struck and killed by a pickup truck equipped with a street sweeper early Thursday morning.

The crash took place as a 34 year old man from North Port was walking in the outside lane of northbound Interstate 75 after 3:40 AM.

As the man walked on the highway, vehicles were approaching from the south, including a pickup truck street sweeper, driven by a 56 year old man from North Fort Myers, and another unidentified vehicle.

At 3:47AM  the street sweeper encountered the pedestrian and the front of the truck crashed into the man at speed.

After being hit by the truck, the man was hit by a second unknown vehicle before coming to a stop in the inside lane of I-75.
