One Dead And Two Injured In I-75 Crash At Kings Highway In Port Charlotte

CHARLOTTE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75.

The accident took place as a semi tractor-trailer driven by a 32-year-old man from Cape Coral was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in the center lane approaching the on-ramp to I-75 from Kings Highway.

As the truck continued on southward a Chevy sedan driven by a 22-year-old woman from Port Charlotte with a 27-year-old male passenger was entering the highway.

At 6:11:00 PM the Chevy sedan lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the center lane directly into the path of the oncoming semi-tractor trailer.

The right-front of the semi, crashed into the left rear of the car, and both vehicles came to a stop on the shoulder of the median.

Shortly after the crash, a 21-year-old man from Port Charlotte who had been driving near the vehicles involved in the truck crash, and witnessed the accident, pulled off the roadway opposite where the crashed vehicles came to a stop.

The man then exited his vehicle, and in an effort to assist the people involved in the crash attempted to run across I-75 to get to the scene of the crash.

While the man was attempting to cross Interstate 75 a pick-up truck driven by a 31-year-old man from Bonita Springs was approaching the scene at speed and failed to see the crash scene.

In an effort to avoid colliding with the large semi tractor-trailer the pickup truck swerved to the left, then crashed into the pedestrian.

After striking the pedestrian the pickup truck continued on and crashed into the tractor-trailer and Chevy sedan.

FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
