One Dead & Two Seriously Injured In A Multi-Vehicle Crash On University Parkway Saturday

SARASOTA COUNTY – FHP announced that one person has died and two people are in serious condition after being involved in a car accident on University Parkway near Desoto Road Saturday evening.

The accident began as a sedan driven by a 67-year-old woman from New York who was driving a sedan eastbound on University Parkway in the left lane.

As the New York man traveled east, a 70-year-old man from Bradenton was driving a sedan west on University Parkway with a 70-year-old female passenger in the left lane.

Near the westbound sedan, was a sport utility vehicle driven by a 39-year-old man from Venice Florida.

At 6:40:00 PM, for reasons not disclosed in the report the 67-year-old woman driving the car eastbound collided with the concrete curb on the median.

After striking the curb the sedan crossed over the median and drove into the path of the oncoming westbound traffic, in the left lane of westbound University Parkway.

The front of the sedan driven by the New York woman crashed head-on with the front of the car driven by the man from Bradenton.

The force of the crash caused the car driven by the man from Bradenton to rotate and enter the path of the Sport Utility Vehicle.

The front of the SUV crashed into the car, which caused the SUV to veer off the roadway where it collided with a chainlink fence before coming to a stop.

Both of the sedans came to a rest in the westbound lanes of University Parkway.

The woman from New York did not survive the accident, and both the driver from Bradenton and his passenger were seriously injured in the crash.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt in the accident.

The report states that the woman from New York had not been wearing a seatbelt during the collision.

FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
