One Person Dead And 3 Injured In Motorcycle Crash On Clark Road Friday Night
SARASOTA COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol reported one person has died and three people have been injured after a motorcyclist and his passenger crashed on Clark Road Friday night.
The crash took place as a 42-year-old man from Sarasota, and a 20-year-old female passenger was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Clark Road in the left turn lane at the intersection with Lawton Drive.
As the motorcyclist was approaching Lawton Drive, a 49-year-old man from Sarasota was driving a van westbound on Clark Road also approaching the intersection with Lawton Drive.
Also approaching Lawton Drive in the center lane of Clark road was a Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) Bus with no passengers, driven by a 52-year-old man from Palmetto.
At 11:55:00 PM the motorcyclist attempted to make the left turn from Clark Road onto Lawson Drive and collided with the concrete curb on the median of the turn lane.
After striking the curb with the motorcycle, both the driver and the passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.
The motorcycle traveled forward before overturning directly in the path of the oncoming van driven by the 49-year-old man. The right-front of the van crashed into the motorcycle and the force of the collision threw the motorcycle toward the center lane.
After being knocked into the center lane, the front of the oncoming SCAT bus collided with the motorcycle, then the undercarriage of the bus fatally struck the 42-year-old motorcyclist while he was on the roadway.
The 20-year-old woman who was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle was seriously injured in the crash.
The driver of the motorcycle died after being struck by the undercarriage of the SCAT bus.
Both the driver of the van, and the driver of the SCAT bus suffered minor injuries in the accident.
FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
