One Person Killed And One Seriously Injured In Crash On 27th Street East

MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported a serious injury and fatality resulting from a car accident in Palmetto Sunday night.

The accident happened as a 37-year-old man from Bradenton was driving a sport utility vehicle eastbound on 27th Street East closing on the intersection with 4th Avenue East.

At the same time, a 60-year-old woman from Palmetto was driving a sedan heading south on 4th Avenue East with a 64-year-old male passenger also from Palmetto.

At 11:05:00 PM, the driver of the SUV failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the intersection, and the front of the SUV crashed into the right side of the sedan.

After the crash the force of the impact caused the SUV to rotate and then travel off the roadway where it came to a stop in the southeast corner of the intersection.

After being hit from the side the car drove off the roadway and crashed into a chainlink fence before finally coming to a stop.

The 64-year-old passenger in the sedan was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the sedan, a 60-year-old woman from Palmetto, was seriously injured in the crash.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt in the accident.

Both the driver and passenger of the sedan had been wearing seat belts during the crash.
