Pedestrian Critically Injured After Crash With Sarasota County Truck
SARASOTA FLORIDA- Florida Highway Patrol has announced that a woman was critically injured while being involved in a crash at Sarasota during late afternoon on Wednesday.
The crash happened as a 68 year old man was driving a Sarasota County Work Truck while traveling east on Bahia Vista Street. At the same time a 35 year old female pedestrian was jogging east on the sidewalk at the westbound side of Bahia Vista Street.
At 1:32 P.M the Truck made a U-Turn at the intersection of Bahia Vista Street and Witmarsum Blvd. The pedestrian was crossing Witmarsum blvd in the crosswalk while the driver failed to yield to the pedestrian crossing the marked crosswalk.
The front right corner of the truck collided with the front of the pedestrian as it continued to travel west while dragging the pedestrian 60 feet.
The reason stated why the truck driver made the U-turn was that he observed eastbound traffic approaching and quickly made the U-Turn.
The 35 year old female was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital while in critical condition.
