Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck On 26th St W In Bradenton
Manatee County - Florida Highway Patrol announced one person was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Bradenton Tuesday evening.
The crash took placed as a pedestrian identified only as a 40 year old man from Bradenton, was crossing 26th Street West just south of Cortez Road.
As the pedestrian was walking across 26th from the east toward the west, 37 Year Old Ronald Bowens from Sarasota was approaching from the south with two passengers driving a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis in the outside lane.
As the pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway, traffic slowed down, however, Bowens changed lanes from the outside lane to the inside lane to avoid the slower traffic.
At approximately 8:00PM, the unidentified pedestrian stepped into the path of the oncoming car and was hit by the full-sized sedan at speed.
The pedestrian was thrown from the impact site and came to a rest in the right turn lane of 26th Street West.
After the collision, Bowens pulled his vehicle to a stop at the driveway of the Wawa gas station on the corner of 26th St West and Cortez.
The pedestrian was transported to Blake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
