Port Charlotte Motorcyclist Killed In Crash At US 41 & Chamberlain Blvd.
NORTH PORT FL - A man from Port Charlotte was killed after being involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening.
The fatal accident took place as a 42-year-old Port Charlotte man was driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed heading northbound on US 41 approaching the intersection with Chamberlain Boulevard.
As the motorcycle sped northward, a 66-year-old man from Port Charlotte with a 60-year-old woman passenger in a van were stopped at the stop sign on Chamberlain Boulevard at US 41.
At 6:19:00 PM, the driver of the van attempted to cross US 41 and proceeded to drive into the intersection traveling directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.
The front of the motorcycle crashed into the left rear side of the van. The force of the collision caused the motorcyclist to become separated from his vehicle and was thrown onto the pavement where he came to a stop on the right shoulder of US 41.
The driver of the van came to a stop in the center of the median on US 41.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
The motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
