Sarasota Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By Car Crossing US 301 In Ellenton
MANATEE COUNTY, FL - FHP announced A fatal accident took place Saturday night on US 301 in Ellenton. The crash resulted in a 60-year-old man from Sarasota who was riding his bicycle losing his life after being fatally struck by a car.
The crash occurred around 9:47 PM at the intersection of US-301 (SR-43) and Palm Avenue in Ellenton, FL. The bicyclist was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of US-301 (SR-43) near the driveway access of 3410 US-301 when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The vehicle involved was a sedan driven by a 32-year-old man from Ellenton. The car was traveling west on the inside lane of US-301 (SR-43) when the bicyclist moved in front of it. The driver was unable to avoid the collision with the cyclist.
As per the report from Crash Investigator Trooper Jablonski and Homicide Investigator Corporal Slowick, the front of the sedan collided with the bicyclist, causing critical injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the sedan was reportedly unharmed. It has been confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The identity of the bicyclist has not been disclosed at this time as his next of kin have yet to be notified.
