Sarasota Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By Car Near Spanish Lakes
NOKOMIS -Florida Highway Patrol announced a cyclist has died after being hit by a car Friday evening.
The crash happened as a 52-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a bicycle on U.S. 41, heading east, attempting to cross all four lanes of traffic near the intersection with Spanish Lakes Boulevard in Nokomis.
As the cyclist attempted to cross US 41, a 32-year-old man from Venice was driving a car heading northbound on US 41 approaching the intersection with Spanish Lakes Boulevard.
At 10:25:00 PM, the driver from Venice encountered the bicyclist from Sarasota and failed to see the cyclist in time.
The front of the car collided with the cyclist, and the impact threw the man from his bicycle onto the northbound lanes of US 41.
The cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
