NOKOMIS -Florida Highway Patrol announced a cyclist has died after being hit by a car Friday evening.

The crash happened as a 52-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a bicycle on U.S. 41, heading east, attempting to cross all four lanes of traffic near the intersection with Spanish Lakes Boulevard in Nokomis.

As the cyclist attempted to cross US 41, a 32-year-old man from Venice was driving a car heading northbound on US 41 approaching the intersection with Spanish Lakes Boulevard.

At 10:25:00 PM, the driver from Venice encountered the bicyclist from Sarasota and failed to see the cyclist in time.
