Sarasota Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By SUV On U.S. 41 In Bradenton
BRADENTON FL - According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a man from Sarasota has died after being hit by a sport utility vehicle early Wednesday morning.
The crash took place as a 63-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a bicycle southbound in the inside lane of U.S. 41, approaching the intersection with 32nd Avenue West, before sunrise.
As the cyclist traveled south, a 54-year-old man from Bradenton was following behind, approaching the cyclist from the north in a Dodge sport utility vehicle.
At 6:30 AM the driver of the Dodge SUV encountered the bicyclist and failed to stop, colliding with the cyclist.
The left front of the SUV crashed into the rear of the bicycle, and the cyclist overturned and continued forward sliding onto the southbound lane of U.S. 41 after being rolled up onto the hood of the SUV.
The injured cyclist came to a stop within the southbound lanes of US 41.
The SUV came to a controlled stop in a nearby parking lot located at 3210 1st Street.
Manatee County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and pronounced the cyclist deceased at the scene of the crash.
FHP has stated that the accident is under investigation and that Criminal Charges are pending.
