Sarasota Man Dies After Being Hit While Making Left Turn Onto Bee Ridge Road Monday
SARASOTA FL - Florida Highway Patrol announced a man was killed in an auto accident on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota Monday morning.
The fatal accident occurred as a 76-year-old man from Sarasota driving a Ford Bronco SUV was stopped on Oakhurst Boulevard waiting for traffic at the intersection with Bee Ridge Road.
As the man in the SUV waited for traffic to clear, a 42-year-old man from Sarasota was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Bee Ridge Road in the outside lane approaching the intersection with Oakhurst Blvd.
At 7:55:00 AM, the driver of the Ford Bronco sport utility vehicle failed to yield to the oncoming pickup truck and attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Bee Ridge Road from Oakhurst, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming pickup truck.
The front of the pickup truck collided with the left side of the Ford Bronco SUV when the two vehicles intersected in the eastbound lanes of Bee Ridge Road.
After the crash, the Ford SUV came to a stop facing the eastbound lanes in the outside lane on Bee Ridge Road. The pickup truck came to a rest facing west also within the eastbound lanes of Bee Ridge Road.
Sarasota County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash, and EMS pronounced the 76-year-old man deceased at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
FHP has stated that both drivers had been wearing their seatbelts during the accident and that the crash remains under investigation.
