Sarasota Man Dies After Being Struck By Hit And Run Driver On University Friday Night
MANATEE COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol announced a man from Sarasota was struck and killed while riding a bicycle on University Parkway Friday night.
The crash occurred as an unknown vehicle was driving westbound in the center lane of University Parkway near Tuttle Avenue.
As the vehicle traveled west on the center lane, a 65-year-old man from Sarasota was on a bicycle along the northern shoulder of University Parkway.
At 8:20 PM, the bicyclist entered the roadway of University Parkway and proceeded south in an attempt to cross the lanes of traffic to get to the southern shoulder, however the man traveled directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
The front of the vehicle crashed into the bicyclist at speed and the cyclist was fatally injured by the collision.
After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
The 65-year-old man from Sarasota was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by emergency medical services.
Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact the FHP or Crimestoppers. This crash remains under investigation by highway patrol.
