Sarasota Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit Crossing 41 At Gulfgate
GULFGATE, SARASOTA FL - Florida Highway Patrol announced one person has died after being hit by a car while crossing the road Sunday night.
The crash took places as 27 year old Johnny Edward Burns from Sarasota was at the east side of the intersection of Gulfgate and US 41.
At the same time 20 year old motorist Johander Ontivero Garcia from Sarasota, was approaching in a 2019 Nissan Altima from the south.
At approximately 9:18PM Johnny Burns entered the eastern side of the northbound lanes of US 41, traveling east in the crosswalk from Gulfgate Drive.
Under a green traffic light Garcia, in the right lane of US 41 was unable to stop before colliding with pedestrian Johnny Burns.
After striking Burns, driver Garcia came to a controlled stop.
Burns was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, however he died from his injuries.
The pedestrian crash remains under investigation.
