Sarasota Pedestrian Killed By Drunk Driver On Clark Road Tuesday Night
SARASOTA - Florida Highway Patrol reported that a man has died and a man is in custody after a pedestrian was struck and killed in a DUI crash Tuesday evening.
The deadly crash began Tuesday evening as a 66-year-old man from Sarasota was on foot and attempting to cross Clark Road (State Road 72) west of Derek Avenue.
As the man continued to cross the lanes of travel, a 59-year-old man from Sarasota was driving a pickup truck heading eastbound in the inside lane of Clark Road approaching the intersection with Derek road and the pedestrian attempting to cross the lanes of travel.
At 7:02 PM the driver of the pickup truck encountered the pedestrian while in the inside lane and failed to yield.
The pickup truck collided with the pedestrian fatally injuring him - authorities pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene of the crash.
FHP states that the driver of the Pickup Truck was arrested for driving under the influence, and booked into the Sarasta County Jail.
FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
