Sarasota Pedestrian Killed By Tractor-Trailer On I-75
SARASOTA COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol reported a pedestrian was struck and killed early Monday morning along Interstate 75.
The accident took place on I-75 southbound near mile-marker 209. Driver 48 year old David Lawrence of Jacksonville Florida, was heading south in a 2001 Mack Semi in the middle lane very early Monday morning.
Ahead of Lawrence, 65 year old Gerald Nicolas of Sarasota was standing on the right shoulder of I-75 as the 18-wheeler approached from the north .
At 2:46 AM for reasons unknown, Nicolas ran onto the roadway directly into the path of the oncoming Mack truck and was struck by the vehicle.
Lawrence came to a controlled stop in the middle lane crossing into the left lane facing south.
Nicolas was found on his stomach facing south on the left shoulder and died during.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
