The Characteristics Of A Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

The Characteristics Of A Mild Traumatic Brain InjuryTraumatic brain injuries, like those experienced in car or slip and fall accidents, come in 3 levels of severity: mild, moderate, and severe. Severe traumatic brain injuries are those likely to cause lifelong disability and a lessened quality of life for sufferers, moderate traumatic brain injuries require a long road but a likelihood of recovery, and those of the mild variety are actually the trickiest. Mild traumatic brain injuries are often looked over, especially with mild in the title, but they’re no laughing matter and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

If you’ve ever been in an accident where you’ve hit your head and been left feeling a little dizzy, a bit fatigued, or somewhat “out of it”, even if you never lost consciousness at all, you’ve most likely been the recipient of a mild traumatic brain injury. These symptoms have been caused by your brain being jostled around a bit, and while the injury isn’t severe, no injury to the epicenter of your body should be taken lightly. In these instances, the cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain is enough to protect from lasting damage, but that doesn’t mean that your symptoms will always be quick and light. Even a mild traumatic brain injury can cause you to lose wages, miss work, and put your life on hold, which is why if any brain injury is suspected after an accident, it should always be investigated by a doctor straight away.

Because of the nature of mild traumatic brain injuries, finding hard statistics on recovery is somewhat difficult. Many go undiagnosed or unchecked and some symptoms can be confused with symptoms of other conditions, so getting hard numbers in terms of recovery and experiences is impossible at this time. What doctors do know, however, is that the average mild traumatic brain injury can be expected to heal in about a month or so, but some may experience lasting symptoms or discomfort for as long as six months. If these lasting symptoms hinder your ability to carry out your everyday routine, this could mean your mild traumatic brain injury could award you compensation for your damages.

Confusing The Symptoms

A mild traumatic brain injury comes along with several different symptoms, the most common are dizziness, headache, fatigue, and “brain fog”. The problem with this is that these very symptoms can also be indicative of several other different conditions, many of which are experienced simultaneously as the traumatic brain injury especially in accident cases. For instance, if a person is in an automobile or slip and fall accident and they hit their head and experience whiplash, they could be experiencing a mild neck injury or strain to go along with their traumatic brain injury. Neck injuries are also known to cause headaches, sometimes severe, dizziness, and fatigue due to the pain as well. Neck injuries are also known to linger, so what you may think is the symptom of a past mild traumatic brain injury you experienced 6 or more months ago could actually be the result of a neck or other related injury instead.

Brain injuries and neck injuries are incredibly common in slip and fall or automobile accidents, and their tricky nature, even when mild, is concrete proof as to why it’s so important to be checked out by a doctor immediately following and accident, and to be present for any follow up appointments. Only a medical professional will be able to give you the answers you need for not only your best chance at receiving compensation after an accident, but for an optimal quality of life as well.

Client Testimonials

Attorney David Goldman has been exceptional in the process of helping me through the case. He has always been easy to reach, whether by phone or email, and has thorough knowledge and explains clearly in depth so you feel safe and confident in your lawyer

I used Michael Babboni and his paralegal, Nicole Moore for a legal matter. They went above and beyond my expectations. During the entire process there was constant communication with both Michael and Nicole. They were extremely organized and on top of my case, which I am very grateful for. Michael truly had my best interests at heart and he was very genuine. I plan on referring Michael to all family and friends and will continue to use him in the future.

I dealt most with Mr. Fernandez. I didn’t know a lot about this process. He took the time to speak with me individually, in person, to explain everything. It was very helpful to actually know and understand the process and what to expect. He closed my case quickly, which was nice that it was not prolonged! I appreciated his hard work and getting me what I felt I deserved after my car accident. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs an honest and reliable lawyer to assist you with your case!

I hired Mr. Walsh after an automobile accident this past March. He and his entire staff were extremely professional. They kept me informed every step of the way and settled my case in a timely manner. Thank you so much for your help.
