Florida Truck Drivers – Stay A Safe Driver Sleep Well Before Driving

It doesn’t matter what part of Florida you’re in, Palmetto, Parrish, Lakewood Ranch, or somewhere else; there’s a good chance you’ll see multiple tractor-trailers on the roadways. These operators always seem to be on the go delivering this, that, and everything in between. It’s excellent that the trucks and their drivers are out and about because they ensure goods get into the hands of Americans.

So, if you’re a transporter in the United States, thank you. Eighteen-wheeler drivers are only allowed to drive so many hours per day. According to, drivers can only be behind the wheel for a maximum of 11 hours per the regulations set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Administration. This is to protect operators and others on the roadways.

However, after driving what amounts to between 605 and 650 hours daily, it’s easy to see how transporters might get sleepy while working from time to time. That’s not a good thing. According to the CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowsy driving was a factor in 91,000 accidents across the U.S. in 2017. The events were responsible for 50,000 injuries and almost 800 deaths. Hence, if you’re a truck driver, do what you can to stay awake and alert to keep drowsy driving accidents at bay. You might find the following tips useful.

Get Rid Of That Light

Some people can sleep with the sunshine shining on their faces. Meanwhile, others can’t manage to get any shut eye if even the smallest amount of light is present. Does the latter describe you to a T? Don’t fret if that’s the case. Instead, have you considered using a sleep mask? Wearing it will block out the light and ensure you rest peacefully.

Of course, some individuals aren’t about that having a mask across their eyes life. We get it, so try this on for size. Close the shades and curtains in your sleeper to block out light from the sun, moon, or artificial lighting. By making it dark, the hope is that you’ll be able to fall asleep and stay that way throughout the day or night.

Make It Quiet

It isn’t always possible to find a quiet place to park while you’re out on the road. Yet, whenever you have the time, it can be in your best interest to do so. Often, truckers park on the sides of highways or at truck stops to rest. The only problem with this is that there can be lots of noise. For example, other trucks will be pulling in and out throughout the night. Not to mention, people may be walking around, talking, and carrying on.

With so much going on, the sounds may keep you awake. Don’t worry, though. All may not be lost. You may be able to drowned everything out with a white noise machine. Or if that isn’t your cup of tea, what about ear plugs? You can get a set of them to place inside the openings of your ears and eliminate unwanted sounds.

Ensure Your Sleeper Is Comfy

The last thing any transporter needs is an uncomfortable mattress keeping them awake. Thus, if you lay down on your existing unit only to toss and turn all night, maybe it’s time for an upgrade. Invest some cash in a new mattress, blankets, pillows, and whatever else you need to sleep great.
