Two Injured And One Dead After North Port Car Crash On US 41

SARASOTA COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol has announced a fatal car accident in North Port Wednesday afternoon that claimed one life and seriously injured two others.

The crash began as a 66-year-old man from North Port was driving a Hyundai Sedan traveling north on Palm Harbor Drive, approaching the intersection with US 41.

As the man from North Port approached the stop sign at the intersection, a 21-year-old woman from Port Charlotte was driving a Nissan sedan, traveling east within the left lane, of US 41 also approaching the intersection with Palm Harbor Drive.

Traveling as a passenger in the Nissan Sedan on US 41 was a 79-year-old man from North Port.

At 2:10:00 PM the driver of the Hyundai sedan failed to yield to the oncoming traffic on US 41 and entered the intersection driving into the path of the Nissan sedan.

The front of the Nissan crashed into the left side of the Hyndai at speed with such force that the Hyndai rotated and the two vehicles collided again, with the left rear of the Hyndai striking the right side of the Nissan.

After the collision, the Hyundai traveled off the roadway onto the median where it came to a stop. The Nissan continued on before coming to a rest on the westbound shoulder of US 41.

FHP has stated that the 79-year-old passenger traveling in the Nissan was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The 21-year-old driver of the Nissan sedan was seriously injured in the crash.

The 66-year-old man from North Port who was driving the Hyundai sedan was also seriously injured. FHP has said that the accident remains under investigation.
