Two Injured In Cash With FHP Police Cruiser In Ellenton On US 301


MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol announced two people were injured when a driver crashed into a marked FHP cruiser Monday morning.

The crash took place as a 67 year old woman from Ellenton was driving north on 72nd Ave East approaching the intersection with US 301 in Ellenton Florida in a Toyota sedan.

At the same time a trooper in a marked Florida Highway Patrol cruiser (sedan) was eastbound on US 301 approaching the intersection with 72nd Ave East from the west.

At 6:44AM both the Toyota Sedan and the marked FHP cruiser entered the intersection at the same time and collided.

The front of the FHP cruiser crashed into the left front of the Toyota Sedan. The force of the crash sent the police cruiser into the grassy median on US 301 where it came to a stop facing east.

The Toyota came to a stop facing the southeast straddling the median and the right lanes of eastbound US 301.

Both the woman from Ellenton and the driver of the FHP police cruiser suffered minor injuries in the crash.

FHP has asked any witnesses of the accident to contact them at 239-938-1800.

This crash remains under investigation.

The driver of the Toyota failed to stop at the solid red traffic light, and has been cited for running the red light.
