Venice Man Dies In 3-Vehicle Crash On US 41 At Inlets Blvd Monday
NOMOKIS FL - FHP has announced a man has died after being involved in a multi-vehicle traffic accident Monday night.
The accident began as a 52-year-old woman from Connecticut was driving a Honda SUV northbound in the center lane of US 41 approaching the intersection with Inlets Boulevard in Nokomis.
Also traveling in the Honda SUV were two passengers, a 77-year-old man from Georgia, and a 77-year-old woman from Georgia.
Following behind the Honda SUV and approaching with speed, was a 47-year-old man from Venice Florida driving a Lincoln sedan.
As the two vehicles continued in the northbound lanes, a 40-year-old man from Nokomis Florida was southbound in a pickup truck, lawfully within the southbound lanes approaching the other two vehicles.
At 9:20:00 PM, the 47-year-old man driving the Lincoln sedan encountered the Honda SUV which was moving significantly slower and swerved out of the center lane into the inside (left) lane attempting to avoid crashing into the rear of the SUV.
However while the driver of the Lincoln did avoid a direct rear-end crash, the left side of the sedan side-swiped the right side of the Honda SUV at speed.
After the collision with the SUV, the Lincoln sedan was redirected toward the left and crossed the median, then entered the northbound lanes, where the front of the sedan crashed into the right side of the oncoming pickup truck.
The driver of the Lincoln sedan was pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Services at the scene of the crash.
None of the occupants of the Honda SUV, or the pickup truck were injured in the wreck, and all parties had been wearing seat belts during the accident.
Florida Highway Patrol has stated that the crash is being investigated by the Traffic Homicide Unit.
