Woman Dies After Crashing Into Semi On Rockley Blvd In Venice
SARASOTA COUNTY - Florida Highway Patrol reported one person has died after a car accident in Venice involving a Semi-Tractor Trailer Friday morning.
The accident took place as a Semi Tractor-Trailer was parked in the right-hand southbound lane of Rockley Boulevard, near the intersection with Montrose Drive Friday morning.
The driver of the truck, a 70-year-old man from Oshawa Canada, was stopped to make a delivery.
As the truck was sitting in the lane, an 80-year-old woman from Venice Florida was driving a Nissan Sentra sedan southbound on Rockley Boulevard approaching the stopped truck from the north.
At 11:33 AM the woman came upon the parked semi, and failing to stop, crashed into the rear of the trailer. at speed
After the collision between the sedan and the tractor-trailer, the woman from Venice was transported to Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota by EMS where she was pronounced deceased.
The press release states that the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit will investigate the crash.
