Supporting Families in Crisis: David Goldman Shares How One Conversation Grew Into 25 Years of ServiceThis month, Attorney David Goldman sat down with Dr. April Glasco, founder and CEO of Second Chance Last Opportunity, for a conversation about resilience, service, and their shared commitment to helping people rebuild their lives.

David first met Dr. Glasco nearly 25 years ago when she became his client. During that time, he learned about her small but determined nonprofit working out of a modest storefront. Inspired by her vision and compassion, he began volunteering. Today, he serves as Board Chair and continues to support the organization as it has grown into a fully operational Emergency Crisis Center serving thousands of families each month.

On the program, David reflected on the organization’s extraordinary progress—from expanding food distribution and crisis support programs to staying open through hurricanes, COVID, and economic hardship. Dr. Glasco shared how education, faith, and community involvement have helped SCLO stay true to its mission: giving people the tools and encouragement to rise after hardship.

David spoke about why he remains involved:

“Half the time, I can solve someone’s problem even if I don’t take the case. I want to help the little guy. That’s always been my purpose.”

As the holidays approach, both emphasized the urgent need for community support—food donations, warm clothing, volunteers, and financial contributions that help SCLO continue serving families in crisis.

Their discussion offered a powerful reminder of how legal advocacy and community service work hand-in-hand to lift people up when they need it most.
