SARASOTA COUNTY – A bicyclist was killed Sunday afternoon following a crash on Beach Road near Beach Access #9, east of Plaza de las Palmas, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP reports the crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on February 8, 2026.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by a 36-year-old man from Sarasota was traveling southeast on Beach Road and was attempting to make a right turn onto the beach access.
At the same time, a 65-year-old man from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, was riding a bicycle in the designated bike lane along Beach Road.
While making the turn, the pickup truck collided with the bicyclist, according to FHP.
The bicyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
