IMMOKALEE — The Florida Highway Patrol has reported a tragic crash Saturday evening in Collier County that claimed the life of a 45-year-old man from Immokalee.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Lake Trafford Road near North 18th Street.
According to the report, a 30-year-old man from Immokalee was driving a Ford truck eastbound on Lake Trafford Road, approaching North 18th Street. At the same time, a 45-year-old man riding a bicycle was traveling north on North 18th Street toward the intersection.
As the cyclist attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of Lake Trafford Road, he entered the path of the oncoming truck. The front of the truck collided with the bicycle, critically injuring the rider.
The bicyclist was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the crash.
