COLLIER COUNTY FL – Florida Highway Patrol reported one person died and two people seriously injured after their car crashed into a semi tractor trailer on Interstate 75 very early Monday morning.
The crash took place as a sedan driven by a 21 year old woman from Naples was driving southbound on I-75 south of Golden Gate Parkway in Naples with two passengers, a 24 year old woman from Naples and a man also from Naples.
At the same time a semi tractor trailer, driven by a 58 year old man from Naples was ahead of the sedan also on the southbound lanes, and was traveling slower than the sedan.
At 2:12:00 AM the sedan closed on the tractor trailer and failed to slow down, then crashed at speed into the back of the trailer.
After crashing into the back of the truck, the sedan rotated. The male passenger had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the car, and came to rest on the southbound travel lanes of the highway.
The car came to a stop on the grass median of interstate 75.
The tractor trailer came to a stop on the paved shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-75.
The male passenger of the car who was thrown from the vehicle during the crash died from his injuries.
The 24 year old woman passenger was seriously injured in the crash. The 21 year old driver of the car is in critical condition.
The driver of the truck was not harmed in the accident.
FHP has stated the crash remains under investigation.
