BRADENTON – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian Monday evening on 60th Avenue West near Flamingo Boulevard, approximately a quarter mile west of U.S. 41 (14th Street West) in Bradenton.
FHP reports the crash occurred at approximately 6:49 p.m. on February 9, 2026.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on 60th Avenue West as it approached a marked crosswalk near the entrance and exit of a Publix store.
At the same time, a 74-year-old man from Bradenton was attempting to cross the travel lanes of 60th Avenue West within the marked crosswalk, according to investigators.
FHP states that the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following the collision, the vehicle entered the Flamingo Garden Apartment complex, where it briefly stopped. The vehicle then traveled through the apartment complex, reentered 60th Avenue West, and fled westbound, according to the report.
The vehicle involved is believed to be a Toyota RAV4 or Toyota 4Runner, possibly dark gray or black. The driver remains unknown, and the crash continues to be under investigation.
