Two Bradenton construction workers were seriously injured after an SUV entered an active work zone on State Road 574, also known as Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and struck their truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Florida Highway Patrol has reported a serious crash early Wednesday morning on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Hillsborough County, west of Bismark Palm Drive, that resulted in the serious injury of two Bradenton construction workers.
The injured workers were a 20-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, both from Bradenton. Troopers said the two men were inside a Ford F-550 work truck that was positioned in an active construction zone with its caution lights activated.
According to FHP, the other driver was a Tampa man driving a GMC Yukon SUV westbound on State Road 574 approaching the road construction workers.
At about 3:30 a.m., the Yukon SUV left the lanes of travel and entered the construction zone, where it collided with the Ford F-550 work truck and seriously injured the two Bradenton workers inside. Both the 20-year-old Bradenton man and the 36-year-old Bradenton man were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
The Tampa driver suffered only minor injuries and was cited for careless driving.
